Hello all,

I am new to the forums here and I am need of ideas. I work in the IT Dept. at the local school district. We use Altiris DS 6.9 on our Server 2003 servers, and had upgraded to Windows Vista (Business & Ultimate) in August 07'.

We always in the past, have included Aclient in our images. This worked sucessfully for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. We ran it on Vista when we got it, but since it wasn't meant for Vista we couldn't run some configure jobs or Remote control. It was okay for simply seeing if the computer was online and the information; worked as part of the Vista image fine.

At the beginning of the school year, in August, we started using DAgent with Vista images since it was compatible. The version was .166 build of the DAgent I belive. We could get it to install and work when we built the image. But when we deployed that image, DAgent would crash if we did a manual download of the image to a computer. It would work if we did reimaging through the console, however. We continue to have the problem with it not working after an image job. However, we now have .355 build and the DAgent will work again on imaged PCs if we run the Repair portion of the Install Wizard on it. It is really strange. I checked the agent, and somehow after imaging, it loses its IP address settings. The feild and port number are blank. If I manually enter in the server IP again, the Dagent crashes after I do it and will not work even after restarting. I can get it working by doing the repair wizard as I stated.

We did some experimenting, it turns out that on "imaged" computers, if we leave the agent out of the image, we must push the agent out two times before it will work on those imaged PCs and report back into DS. That is the only work-around we can come up with, but it is incovient pushing the agent out after imaging, seeing as we have a high number of Vista Laptops/Desktops.

Now our recent problem comes from a laptop image we built with Vista. It's a Dell Latitude E5500. I had the agent working sucessfully on the image, but when I download the image to a different computer, Dagent works again after a repair, but immediately stops working after a restart when I rename the computer to enter into the domain. It comes up with some unexplicible "Run Time Error- This application's runtime has requested to terminate the application unexpectedly." It also mentions DAgentconfig and DAgent.exe below this message. This is the most important thing I need to figure out, and I am hoping someone can help. Any ideas?
