Dell Latitude E6400 Bootdisc issue

We are utilizing DS by using WinPE Boot Disc for security and company specific reason. The problem is specific with Dell Latitude E6400, although the correct drivers are properly setup on the Boot Disc and we can see the it (the proper drivers) loads properly, it could not get an IP address. The older models of dell latitude and even new Dell desktop PCs was able to get an IP address without an issue using a winpe bootdisc.

"I keep getting "restarting DHCP client service retry 1...."
"I keep getting "restarting DHCP client service retry 2...."
and so fort.

please help thanks

Then it's *not* the correct driver. I am guessing you used the XP one. For WinPE2.1 you should add the Vista driver.

So looks like I found the culprit for the 1068 error. Its the SATA operations, I have to change it from IRRT to ATA. I thought the image capture/deployment are the only one that have issue with this setting but looks like the WinPE 2.1 bootdisc also have issue with it.

Thanks Brandon for the help, hopefuly there is a work around where we can use the boot disc without changing the SATA operation settings.

Was just in my lab trying to remember what I did to get round this. I had the same problem a few weeks ago when I got the machine. Same fix applied chose ATA, This was for the E6400 ruggadised with Solid state Hard drive. Had BSOD when booting to XP CD as well in non ATA mode.

We did a mass order from Dell last year and we could request our bios preferences if you have that option
from your supplier.

Also had the same prob (ATA) with the XT2 tablet.

In Bios change to IDE

This will work, then after in windows update the drive with SATA drivers and then shutdown. Put Bios back to SATA and then when it gets to windows it will find the drivers. This is a workaround I use.
