AClient on Vista RC1

I really feel like I'm flogging a dead horse here.

I upgraded our production DS server to 6.8 over the weekend. No problems so far. (OK, except the one I'm writing about.)

I cannot get AClient to install on the Vista workstation. I turned off the MS Firewall and Windows Defender Real Time Scanner. After a couple hours I got the Altiris Agent installed (with no intervention).

I tried using the Remote Agent Installer. It does its thing, then bombs on "Starting AClient." And I mean "bombs" by

When I run the command line (\\servername\eXpress\Agents\AClient\altiris-aclient-6.8.206.X86.exe \\servername\eXpress\Agents\AClient\aclient.inp -install), I get nothing. No errors, no log files, nothing in the event viewer.

My Vista workstation shows up in NS (but I haven't looked closely at it) so I tried to install the AClient with the NS package. No go. No errors. No log files on the client. (And the Altiris Agent window does not have an "Options" section where I can check those checkboxes, but that's for another time.)

I've been trying for two days. Has anyone been able to sucessfully install the AClient on Vista? How?

Are you trying to install the dagent on Vista or the aclient?

I was actually trying to install aclient on a Vista machine.
I just read the altiris knowledgebase that explained the need to install DAgent, however i do not seem to be able to find the Dagent??

By default it is located in the express\Agents\AClient directory.

I do not have it there.
there are only 3 directories:
Aclient
ADLAgent
CEAgent
but i have done a search and can not find Dagent ??
Do i need to install a particular hotfix or update >??
All the packages seem to be upgraded to the latest releases

6.8 SP1 is when Vista support started if I remember my release notes right.

I heard that DS 6.8 SP2 has much better support for Vista.

6.8 Build 282 is the SP1 build.

According to the NS console, this is the version i have .
I have tried manually re-downloading SP1 but it will not allow me to run it as it is already installed and requests that i update it via the solutions center, which still is showing the correct version.

You need to download Deployment Server 6.8 SP1 from Altiris. The Deployment Solution is the add-in for NS that allows you to see the Deployment tab in the NS Console.

I beta tested SP2 and the Vista support is better. Im told that the DAgent that will ship with SP2 will resolve some of the problems I encountered.

Where is SP2 .. it is not on the downloads section of the altiris website.?

I have managed to install SP1 and get the Dagent installed, however whenever i attempt to connect from the express console it goes to the microsoft RDP connection..
is anyone aware of this issue?

DS6.8 SP2 has not been released yet. I think it's still in beta testing.

Remote controlling Vista clients with DS will use MS RDP. This is by design. See https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=33426&p=1

However, it appears there is a product enhancement request. The more people who subscribe the this KB article, the better the chance that they will implement something.

Is Altiris planning to fix the DAgent for Vista 32/64? why does it not work like the aclient? goshhhh...
