Question Retired Machine

OK, I know this has been talked about a lot, but I still have confusion and need your help....

Topics on this have been...

Computer not getting policies

Retired / Uretired computers

So here is what my small company is facing. We want Asset Management to be our Active and Retired machine Database. The problem seems to be that Patch Management will not give up the license if you retire the machine. I have been told the work around would be to Export the retired machines to excel, delete them in Altiris, and then readd them. Now I know this will work, but it seems extreme. HAS ANYONE COME UP WITH SOMETHING BETTER!! Hope so, please post...

THANK YOU!! First to post something great gets the BOZO prize, now that is something worth posting for, right? tee hee

I came across a recent KB article that seems to have worked for me. I ran the query in method two then re-installed the patch license and was able to take back about 200 licenses from our retired machines.

Thumbs up

Thanks MAN!!! That worked great!! It did make my license invalid but I just reinstalled it. With them combining the Inventory licenses this will be great to be able to keep the retired machines. I was forced to just delete them. Thanks again for finding that one...

That article is gone now. Basically run:

-- Remove unmanaged licenses
DELETE liu
FROM LicenseInUse liu
LEFT OUTER JOIN vComputerResource cr ON liu.ResourceGuid = cr.Guid
AND IsManaged = 1
WHERE ProductGuid = 'B1338338-5575-4A27-9808-23BEC40D79FA' AND cr.Guid IS NULL

Then re-install your patch .txt license again to make it valid.
