Altiris DS6.9, HP ThinClient T5730 and WinPE 2.1

I am trying to boot a HP ThinClient T5730 with WinPE 2.1...
Trying...because when booting WinPE 2.1 by using PXE Windows is loading files but when the bar is 100% it seems to hang ;-(

I am using DS6.9.

Anyone familiar with this problem ?

Yes, i have the same problem whit winPE and the T5730, because i have to deploy about 120 systems i made an old dos boot whit this driver;

Broadcom Licence<br>Agreement

We are using DS6.8 so it is not a DS6.9 problem, when i have the time i will look for a winPE solution.

Thanks for the update...i am not the only one then ;-)

I use the FREEDOS PXE boot now and that works fine.....
But since we are in a time when DOS gets old and WinPE is nice looking and so on....I was hoping this WinPE was working fine as well....

I also tries with WinPE 2005 (1.6) and DS6.8 which didn't work and I was hoping it was fixed on DS6.9....not ;-(

Keep me up to date with any progress in this one please....I will do to you the same.

How much RAM do those thin clients have? If it's not enough to load WinPE then it'll definitely fail. I believe that a minimum of 256MB is required to use WinPE as an automation environment. For that reason alone we're sticking with DOS for our thin clients.

The TC's we use do have 1Gb + 1Gb of memory ;-)

That can't be the problem.

I do also have a WinPE 2.0 on USB stich and that one is booted in a couple of seconds.....

WinPE 1.6 or 2.1 by using Altiris DS 6.8 or 6.9 is very very slow and does both hang after the WinPE progressbar is finished ;-(

Yep, RAM is definitely not your problem.

I'm just diving into WinPE myself now that DS 6.9 is out, so I'm afraid I have no additional advice.

I will, but this is at a customer site, so i don't know if i will solve the problem. I don't have the time for searching.

Can do. I have some thin clients with plentiful RAM laying around somewhere. None of them will be a T5730, however.

Found another article on here that suggests the BIOS level could be the problem, will check and post an update.

The article is titled: t5730 imaging/deploying

My way around the WinPE problem was by installing 6.8 first and setting up WinPE there (using the winpe disk and 2003sp1 disks) and making sure the boot worked. Then I loaded 6.9 over it and when it comes to the screen about which item you would like to boot from I select (KEEP CURRENT), and have not had a problem since.

Also, flashing the BIOS depending on which version you have loaded may help. Only had one client have this problem and flashed it with the download from HP's site.
