Image Explorer and restoring compress files

We had a user who compressed ALL of his files. We recently reimaged his PC and when we went to restore the files, found out we're not able to because of the compression.

Anyway around this?

Sorry to bump this, but I am having the same issue. Windows XP has automatically compressed some of the users files and now when they are extracted they come out as 8kb, when they are opened they are corrupt.

Any ideas? Is there any way back from this?

I just ran into this issue today as well. The only thing I can think of would be to restore the image to a machine, turn off windows file compression, then re-capture the image. When you restore the image, the files aren't corrupted... just when you extract using image explorer.

I actually need to extract and replace files all the time in my images... as I have some vbscripts I update and inject into the image.

Note, that Ghost explorer and ghost images do this properly... Altiris Image explorer, and img files do not!

+1 Ghost

This is a known issue with Rapideploy. The drive/system must be decompressed or decrypted (if EFS is used) BEFORE the image is captured. Otherwise, you cannot open/extract files from the image.

The image can be restored to do this, if needed.

We have recently switched to Ghost and have not issues with compressed files and no longer use EFS (switched to PGP).
