was ESS replaced with Local Security Solution?

I am now tasked with setting up the ESS portion of our installs....

After installing and licensing... I realized our licenses are expired...

so a call to our Altiris Licensing rep and we were told that ESS was replaced with Altiris Local Security Solution... but I cannot find much on Local Security Solution on Altiris site...

but what i did find mainly looks like account management instead of usb/burner control provided by ESS....

SEP is probably what you are going to want to leverage to do that (if you want that sort of control from the NS console).

well exactly.... I have SEP installed... if you are referencing...
Endpoint Security Solution

our licenses are expired so when we talked to the Altiris rep this is what he said...
...Endpoint Security now being called Local Security and being part of Privilege Mgt Essentials.

I called him to mention that the Local Security Solution PDF doesnt mention anything at all about usb and dvd control. He also mentioned that he found documentation stating this so he is going to dig it up.... so I am not sure on if Endpoint Security has been replaced or not....

it is confirmed... they dropped the ball...

they are going to see if we have upgraded licenses or not.. but Local Security Solution is what I thought... a user manager/password solution...

Understand completely. SEP would be complete overkill if you are just looking to block the usb/cd drive etc.

understood... and that is why we are trying to work with Altiris to get hold of the other company to provide support or licensing..

the biggie is this..

I have ESS installed and agents rolled out to some test machines. Policies setup and enabled.. but cant control the usb or burners...

licenses say 8 of 2000 in use.... date is 2/18/2008 and status is OK... Altiris says it should still work... but I cant get it to...

well the deal is the company that owned ESS sold it to Novell....

i remember liking dr dos back in the day... and novell had to go buy it....

anyway.... ESS is installed, up and running, even though our licenses are expired..... but we are using it... trying to track down the novell source so we can continue using it...

im rolling out the agent to 102 branches over the next 7 days..... so far 2 phases are done and we are already seeing the actual files copied to usb drives..

we are locking down some usb and dvd burners....
while the others are simply installing, not preventing anything but reporting it all.!!!!!!!!
