Economic times and Altiris

I was thinking today that I wanted to get some opinions and ideas around selling Altiris more effectively during times of cost cutbacks due to the economic climate. I was trying to put a Blog post together for this but thought that I should really be collaborating with all of the Altiris Admins here on Altirigos. I will likely summarize some of the findings later as well.

So here are some questions to consider.

For CMS Level 1 there are some clear advantages to using the tools however, how can the Return on Investment be defined. I am finding this hard to do and for any new company looking to purchase CMS1, they need to be able to justify it to the CFO. Typically the CFO wants tangible results based on goals defined during an engagement. They really like to see where they will save the costs.

I see on the Altiris site there are a few White Papers that have some really good information. One problem though....one is from 2006 and one is from 2004. Shame on Altiris for not getting newer information on the site. Does anyone have any links to some more current White Papers that identify the benefits of infrastructure management that are relevant during times of cost cutting?

For those who are interested, please respond with more questions and any thoughts, advice, experiences taht are relevant to our specialty.

I hope to hear from many of you all.

I have a spreadsheet I created for ROI calculations. Real calculations not the typical consultant / company sales propaganda. Present realistic numbers. If you planning on increased productivity reduce it by a significant percentage ( if you give an employee an hour of time back some of it will be spent in the break room etc ).

Soft dollars add up very fast even with discounted percentages.

Bill,

Saving energy through the use of tools such as Altiris is a growing interest from what I am seeing and as a result I made an ROI calculator for it that you are more than welcome to use (Energy savings calculator). If you have any questions about it let me know.

I've also put together a very basic ROI calculator for imaging benefits using a tool like Deployment Server. You can take a look at it as well as use it if you like (Altirigos ROI TOOL).

I would be interested in seeing what others say as well with regards to what would motivate their companies to purchase in the current (and future) economic turmoil.

Nick, both of those are great. Thanks very much
Randall, would you be interested in sharing how you made up your spreadsheet?
