Just showing off
Yesterday I sat down and wrote a new winuser console for the HD.
Here's the standard winuser console for those not used to looking at it:
which is fine if a little boring.
In Firefox on the other hand it looks like:
which is not so fine.
Here's what I built:
1. In IE6
2. In Firefox 1.5
(I hope the involuntary sponsor doesn't take umbrage ... I searched for logo on Google and that was just one of the first to pop up)
I guess the not so subliminal message is that if anyone out there needs a hand building custom consoles, I am available

Wow! That's awesome! If I ever get to the point where I have time to start customizing, I know who I'm gonna email!

Thanks Jen ... it really is not that difficult ... this was mostly done with CSS and Adobe Illustrator.

Code
John,
For those of not as talented as you, would you share your code with us/me?
I would really like to spruce up our page so I can start presenting this to our users to use.
Thanks!

Wow, that's fantastic John.
I think John is one of the best in the business. Next time I get I customization project I know who I'm calling!
To all who aren't familiar, John does this for a living. We can't expect him to give away all his talents . I'm sure he will give you a fair price on any custom work.
Thanks for all your contributions John. You're a real asset to this community.

Hi Jason,
To be honest I haven't decided what to do with it yet. I may be talented but I am also unemployed so this was just a teaser to show what I can do. It is completely functional, though there are a few finishing touches I'd like to apply. Hopefully the job situation will sort itself out soon and then I'll consider what to do with the code.

Thanks Mike,
At the moment I'm not doing anything for a living which is rather depressing. I'm sure the situation is temporary, but it has been a month now since Blue Willow broke up and though there have been a few inquiries, there haven't been any concrete offers yet.
Whatever ... I'll be here helping out where I can until they cut off the electricity and/or the phone line

Can I ask 2 questions?
1) What file did you modify to do these changes?
2) What knowledge is required to do such awesome customization?

Hi,
This was built with SP4, so at the time it was a custom copy of ConsoleMyHD.ascx and a new presentation template. Building in SP5 requires a custom copy of ConsoleMyHDEdit.ascx also, or you can depart completely from the UI model which the canned console uses. I have used up to 5 templates in the past to define one console.
You need to know some VB.NET & ASP.NET, some HTML, javascript and photoshop. Most of the tools you would need to understand to build any web site in .NET.
This is actually pretty crude compared to some of the custom work I have done. It was done as a demo to try and get some work. Thanks for the compliments in any case

This is very nice and attractive. Might help us encourage user to use My Helpdesk Console instead of calling.
How do you modify it?
EDIT: Nevermind. Already found the HOW-TO in http://www.altiris.com/upload/helpdesk_002.pdf
