We recently ran into the same hurdle, but set up a work-around to get us through for now...
We setup a basic POP3 server (we used our existing FTP server since it already resides in the proper network) in a new sub-domain and created the mailbox in there. This invloved a few changes to the MX records, but nothing major. So we would have filtering and some level of security, we then created a contact card in AD for this e-mail address and ensured it was in the proper addressbook. Since we previously set up a number of rules in other systems to send to the old address, we also created a distribution group with the previous e-mail address' name.
The way it then flows is: Senders send to the same e-mail address they always did, but this is now a distribution group with the contact card for the new e-mail address as the only member. This routes the mail through all of our filters and protection then forwards it on the new (non-SSL) POP3 address we created. The pop3 address is setup in Altiris and it receives it as it always did.
I hope this makes some sort of sense!
