iis anonymous error in NS inventory pages

I’m having an issue when viewing the Notification Server Inventory Solution pages, it’s giving me the error, “Server Error in '/Altiris/Inventory' Application”, “An anonymous identity cannot perform an impersonation”. This is happening remotely as well at the server. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere else in the NS console that the error is occurring.

Screenshot of the error:

So, I checked iis manager and the Inventory Solution web site Directory Security settings seem to be setup the way all of the other folders are: anonymous access, integrated windows authentication, etc.

Screenshot of the iis properties:

So I’m not sure if there are rights that got reset (which as happened to me on other occasions, after upgrades, etc.) or whether I should run a repair on Inventory Solution or NS and it’s service packs or what.

Any feedback on this would be fantastic.

Mike

I would reset the security on the Inventory virtual web. I was able to check one of our servers an Anonymous is definately unchecked with IWA being checked.

HTH.

TRYDL, thanks for the reply.

I found the answer on Altiris Knowledgebase in aritcle id: 1062

https://kb.altiris.com/display/1/kb/...aid=1062&n=1&s=

Which outlines my problem specifcally with the inventory pages and states the cause as being:

The virtual link used by Software Inventory Solution in IIS has had the "Anonymous Access" box enabled either directly, or unintentionally by way of filtered-down changes made to a parent higher up. The only authorized access method is through Windows Authentication, so having the anonymous access box enabled causes the error to be generated.

And resolution being to uncheck anonymous if it's checked.

I did that and all is working fine again.

Cool ...an anonymous identity cannot...

That KB article was just what I needed. Thanks for this informative thread.
