Hi, All.
thank you so much for this post, it's very useful!

only one question, I don't understand, how can I invent the correct number of core?

Thanks, bye

Check the link to article 39909 in the very first post of this discussion. Instructions are there for identifying CPU information from aexMachInv.

Also a nice article on Connect with some tricky Perl scripting to do the same (if you have only WinXP and 2003+ you can apply a Microsoft WMI hotfix to get the cores information reported):

P3 vs Core 2 Duo

First off, thanks for all of the postings, the information has been helpful, however for some reason my CPU is still being IDed incorrectly.

I have tried using the files that were posted and my CPU is still IDed as a Pentium III Processor

I ran AeXCpuIdent.exe from Altiris's KB and my results are:

Vendor: GenuineIntel
Family: 0110
Model: 0111
Step: 0110
Type: 00
BrandId:

Taking a closer look at the ProcessorDesc.ini I found that the P3 was 00 0110 0111 which is the same for the my Core 2 Duo. I added the the stepping which mine is 0110 to the forth set but it still did not work. The only thing that helped was moving the line for the Core 2 so that it was above the P3 line, the down side is the P3s are no longer IDed correctly now. I was able to verify this by using DebugView.

Right now I am at a loss because we have some P3s and a lot of Core 2s.

Anyone have any ideas?

try removing the P3 one from your ini file. there is no need for it anymore....unless your company lives in the dark ages

We are a state university so...if it works it gets assigned a new home.

I placed the entry above the P3 entry, hopefully that will do the trick and still capture P3s.

Smile Need more CPU-information?

In case you need more CPU-details I recommend to run a custom inventory. Attached a sample inventory that used the results from a free tool "CPU-Z" to create some detailed inventory-tables.

The file was compressed with IEXPRESS from windows. Can be extracted with nearly every WinZip/WinRAR etc. Just start the file to see the inventory results for a specific machine.
Attached Files
File Type: zip CPU.zip (918.1 KB, 45 views)

Jeff,
Should your signature be:

SELECT * FROM dbo.User WHERE Clue > 0
Query batch completed, 0 rows.

Did that fix your issue?? I think we still have some PIII machines out there.. but all my Core 2 Duo's still show up as PIII's...
