SEP - SVS issue

Hey folks,

Some of you may be aware of the recent problem with a SEP update and SVS on the same system. Symantec/Altiris posted a resolution to the issue and I wanted to make sure that it was given as much exposure as possible. You can read the official link HERE. Thanks to our own rjackson for keeping us updated on the issue!

I have also included the post as follows:

A recent update to Symantec Endpoint Solution (SEP) has been causing Bluescreens when you have older versions of SVS on the system. Most people should not encounter this problem because never versions of SVS do not have this issue. The versions having the problem that have been reported to us are in the 140X line.

If you are experiencing these bluescreens please try the following, this solution has been tested in house and should work--if it doesn't please inform us:

1) On a Machine boot into Safe mode.

2) Open Regedit and navigate to HKey_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Altiris\FSL\ProgramIgnor eList

3) Double click and add the following two entries to the program ignore list

Relative to your SEP directories:

\SymantecXXX\defwatch.exe

\SymantecXXX\dwhwizrd.exe

4) Then restart the machine. What you should be able to verify is the Definitions would be updated (you may have this process automatically) the Client will not Blue Screen.

Also we recommend updating to the latest version of SVS, the versions seeing this bluescreen are quite old and outside of not having this issue there have been numerous other fixes and improvements.

You should also note that this issue is not limited to SEP systems, and that the it also can be present on any SAV Corp Edition system.
