NS 7 implementation
Did any1 has a successful NS 7 implementation/running well in their environment?
We seem to have a lot of bumps/challenges with NS 7. And the worst part is there are no real customizations, everything is straight install. Every single patch from 1 to sp 4, there's always issues. A call to Symantec Tech support seems like a weekly task now.
We are actually evaluate options for desktop management and asset management product now.
I wish we never have migrated to 7. Probably by next yr NS 7 will mature.

Our console is branded "Acer management console"
Screenie attached
Anyone else see this??

NS 6 to NS7
Hello,
We has moved 7500 clients for inventory only from one NS 6 server without site servers( running without any problem) to one NS7 server and this is slow, slow and slow. I installed a second NS7 server and added 6 site servers worldwide. So to do the same in NS7 you need a lot more servers.
And indeed there are alway's some problems with NS7.
For example the problem with the date issue, its open for almost a month by Symantec an still no solution/
regards
Hans

I had this too, l thought l had accidently selected the Acer option by mistake. you can go into SIM and remove. Did not cause me any issues, but l am only running in Lab at the moment not in production.

I also successfully setup the test environment with some issue relating to the symantec Installer. But moved on from that now. I just finished setting up the NS7 production box, and am configuring the bits.
The only issues I have run into along the way are SIM installer issues.
PS: Symantec won't touch yr system for support is you are using Windows 2008. They regard Win2k8 as unsupported product.
Was thinking the Acer branding might be due to Acer CMS console being installed.

I am up and running AMS7 and CMS7 in production. We participated in the Early Adopter Program for AMS7 so I had access to escalated support. Turns out I didnt really even need it. The migration wizard isn't the most user friendly in terms of understanding exactly what you are moving, but beyond that it wasn't very difficult.
I have a whole list of good and bad experiences we encountered during the upgrade. When I sat down and reviewed it, I noticed that most of the complaints I have are related to cosmetic appearance, not functionality. The benefits and improvements in functionality are well worth a few headaches during the upgrade.
For anybody that suffered thru the 5.5 to 6 upgrade, relax! This one is nothing compared to that.
What specific problems are you seeing ktran?

W2K8 support will likely appear for R2 only when SMP moves to native 64 bit later in the year (according to my tame Symantec SE)
