add to a collection script

Hello,

I am currently building computers via OS Deployment, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to I can get a newly built comuter to add itself to a collection automatically.

For example, computer builds and Altiris agent installs automatically. I would like the computer to be able to run a script locally as the local admin to add it to a "Newly Built Computer" collection on the NS.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

collection or filters.

The question will be when does a computer no longer considered a "New Build". once you figure that out you can create a collection based on the filter 'all computers'
and - what ever it is that makes it a not new install.

something like, does it have a sub agent installed. or did it already run a particular job,
hope that helps.

Hello,

I need the computer to go into the New Build collection automatically, as the setting to run patch jobs from Altiris is set at a higher and faster refresh rate than computer in the All computers collections.

Once the new computer is up to date with patches, ( hopefully within a couple of hours), it will be removed from the collection.

I am just really struggling with how to do a call to the NS and use the ASDK to place each new computer into a collection.

if you are looking for instant run of ALL the patches, it just wont work. You still need to get the sub agents installed, run an inventory, at least a software inventory so the system will know what patches to run. As soon as the swd agent checks in it will start to run patches as long as you have a task set up to run it. I still think your best bet will be a collection based on something like "patch management' = null then add to this collection. and then target target all your patches to that group. But again part of the problem for that will be you will have to have dual tasks for all your MS patches. one for your regular schedules, and two for your quickly do it now.
Or you could code all your patches, to run in DS, or be more proactive with your image updates.

That's the best I have.
