Unhappy Data has expired error :/

I get this error msg almost every time i run a report.
After the error the page refreshes its self and 90% percent of the times i run the report again i get the same error.

"16.01.2006 12:48:45","Data for the page you are currently viewing has expired. The url will reloaded into the console and all user entered data will be lost. The URL being viewed was http://localhost/Altiris/NS/Admin/Reports/report_summary.aspx?Guid=115fd895-b4bb-4755-92e2-fdd1ce37e13a","Altiris.NS.UI.AltirisWebApplication .Application_Error","w3wp.exe","6332"

Cant seem to figure out whats causing this.
Anyone have a clue of what might be happening here ?

I only get this if I allow the page to sit for too long without making changes. It will time out and make you refresh the page. It is an IIS setting found under the Default Web Site properties and is labeled Timeout Setting. Mine is set to 900 seconds, which I believe is the default. Other than that, not sure...

It sounds like you may wish to disable content expiration.

When content expiration is enabled, the Web browser compares the current date to the expiration date to determine whether to display a cached page or request an updated page from the server. By default, all of the websites under 'Altiris', have content expiration set to "Expire Immediately". If you like, you can either disable, or lengthen this so that your browser isn't forced to retrieve the same page sooner than you would like.

Open the IIS Manager from Administrative Tools.
Browse down into the Default Web site > Altiris > NS.
Highlight the Altiris virtual website, right-click, and select Properties.
Click on the HTTP Headers tab.
Uncheck the option “Enable content expiration” (or set it to something other than immediately).

I was running NS SP2, now upgraded to SP3, same error.
I have checked the web site timeout value, its 900
i have checked content expiration and then unchecked it to be sure i got it for all childs.
I have changed the timeout value in coresettings.conf (up to 10mins now)
The timeout error happens the secound i push the "run the report" link and it has no difference if i just logged in to the altiris console or if i did it 1 hour ago

Are you logged directly onto your NS or are you using a remote console from another machine? Does it happen on every machine you try it on?

"ip"/altiris
"hostname"/altiris
same error, tried adding the addresses as full trust

Collection update settings

Hello,
What are your automatic collection update settings set to? If they are at the default, what you are most likely seeing is the collections are updating when the the report is processing.

Thanks,

Jim

They are at default, yes
So they are updating so fast that i will never be able to run a report without changing them ?

Also heard some talk about making a new SQL database to run the reports from.
Maybe this could be something for me then ? i gotta try changing some of the settings on collection updateing, see if it gets better

Possible settings

Personally I have set the automatic updates to 30 and 60 minutes, plus the always update at once a day at 2am, on my largest database. Although I do get some timeout issues, it's usually when I start something, and forget that I was doing it.

When i run a report i get the time-out error at once and the entire page refreshes, usually i gotta repeat this 5-20 times and i get the report, but sometimes the report just turn out empty

This is really starting to annoy me :/
Read through different altiris support forums, found a couple of guys that have had the same error as me but noone have found a solution to it except one, he reinstalled the server ^^

Would be glad for any tips on how to solve this

Still an ongoing issue for some people, looking at the thread I started on the Altiris forums about this... for me the solution ended up being "Uninstall Altiris from NS entirely, uninstall IIS, makesure metabase is gone, reinstall IIS, reinstall W2K3 SP1, reinstall Altiris from scratch using a new database".

Ultimately I think the SP1 reinstall was the ultimate fix... I had done two previous altiris rebuilds that didn't fix a thing. Someone else reported however that their box wasn't an SP1 box in the first place, so they were still working on the issue.

We figured it out on our server

We we ran into the same issue and even brought in Altiris/Symantec support. (Yes, we stumped them)

It turned out that it was the name of the NS server.

The server was named altiris_ns and when we changed it to altirisns the issue went away.

The is a Windows 2003 R2 Ent. with Sp2 and has SQL 2000 Sp4 with the latest hot fixes. NS is 6.0 Sp3 with hot fix 8.

Angry Same Error on NS6 SP3 R11

I have tried all the above with the exception of OS rebuild and NS reinstall. Has anyone figured out the issue?

It looks like, that if you have an underline symbol (_) at the name of Altiris server - you will have that problem. We fixed that problem by removing the underline symbol from Altiris Server name (was 'Altiris_Lider', now 'AltirisLider' )

Thanks for the reply. My server name does not have an underscore or dash. Altiris third level has the issue. I will make sure I post the fix...If there is one as soon as Altiris figures out the issue.

Some other weird issues:
Restart WWW service and no error the first time.
Refresh the tree after the error and report works.
Refresh the report and the report renders data.

Looks like an IIS issue but all the settings are correct.
