pmimport folder has multiple pmimport subfolders...

I was getting ready to deploy the latest MS Updates when I noticed my # of Updates vs. # Downloaded was all messed up again on some of the updates. MS05-039 is one of them. It shows 18 updates, but only 2 downloaded. It should show 3 updates and 3 downloaded.

So I disabled the task and checked the pmimport folder. What I found was surprising.

My pmimport folder has MULTIPLE pmimport subfolders (see attachment).

Is this normal? I had never noticed this before. I'm wondering if it's tied to another problem I noticed with my Package Servers having duplicate packages for the same updates.

Jen,

I've heard of this problem but never seen it. There should be a fix for it with PM 6.1 HF 1.

Removing the long path from the Import Microsoft Software Management Resource item and re-importing the item, this issue should get resolved.

To export the item and workaround the problem, do the following:

1. Delete all the unwanted pmimport folders from the file structure.
2. Export the following from the NS Console
Configuration - Solution Settings - Software Management - Patch Management - Microsoft Setting - Import Microsoft Software - Import Microsoft Software Management Resources
3. Open this item for editing and look for the tag <productSubdirectory> and clean any unwanted directories in this tag; originally it should be <productSubdirectory>Import\pmimport</productSubdirectory>
4. Run AeXConfig.exe /configure Xml_File_You_Just_Edited.xml

This should fix the problem.

same problem but slightly differrent evironment.

I have the same problem with only a few subdirectory levels and I'm running ns 6.0.5287 with sp2 hotfix 0018 and patchmanagement 6.1.1398

My question is in following your step:

"To export the item and workaround the problem, do the following:

4. Run AeXConfig.exe /configure Xml_File_You_Just_Edited.xml "

I note a difference in the tree structure on the configuration tab.
mine is Configuration - Solution Settings - Software Management - Patch Management -server settings- Microsoft Setting - Import Microsoft Software - Import Microsoft Software Management Resources
I'm assuming this is due to the version I'm running.

I have exported and edited the xml export using XML marker (neat freebie)
but step four I'm lost on. should this be done on the server from a command line?

Thanks
Sal

That is correct.

next dumb question

In following step four, a path to the file is required. Should I be pointing to my exported edited copy, the original source path? or should I be moving my edited copy to a specific location first then running the config utility?

thanks

Location of the edited xml should not matter. Just make sure to point to the correct location for it when running AeXConfig.exe /configure.
